Express yourself on the web! All LanZing.Net dialup accounts come with up to 100 MB of web server disk space at no additional cost. With your own personal web space you could display your family photos to others, share your favorite hobbies and talents, and so much more!

User Policy

  • Members pages are for "personal" self expression only. No "commercial" content, including advertising or solicitations of any kind are allowed.
  • Material of an "adult" nature is also prohibited.
  • Please remember that anything you publish is subject to all Federal, State and local laws.
  • Personal web pages are limited to 100 Megabytes of web server disk space

How Do I Upload My Personal Web Pages?

If you wish to create a personal website, please log into the Account Manager first and activate your members.lanzing.net web directory. For now, LanZing.Net uses FTP (File Transfer Protocol) only. It allows you to transfer all kinds of files from the Internet.


SmartFTP (Windows)

Note:
SmartFTP has been included in the latest CD distribution of the LanZing.Net Dial-up software.
  1. Open SmartFTP
  2. In the "Address" field, type members.lanzing.net if it's a Personal Member's site.
  3. In the "Login" field, type your LanZing.Net username if it's a Personal Member's site.
  4. In the "Password" field, type in your password.
  5. To connect, press the "Connect" button. (To save these settings for later use, click on the "Favorites" menu and select "Add to Favorites." When you want to connect to this FTP server again, just click on the "Favorites" menu and choose it.)
  6. Once you've connected to the FTP server, right click on the folder you wish to upload your files into and then point to "Upload" > "Direct" and then click on "Select Files."
  7. In the window that opens up, browse to the location of the files you wish to upload. Highlight the files and then click "Open."

Internet Explorer (Windows)
  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. In the address bar type ftp://members.lanzing.net. Press "Enter" on your keyboard.
  3. You will now be prompted for your username and password. Type in your LanZing.Net username and password, check the "save password" option and then click "Log On."
  4. Double click on the "public_html" folder to open it.
  5. Once you have opened the home directory you will see any files that have already been uploaded to your Personal Web Space. If you wish to upload a new file, simply drag it from it's location on your computer into the Internet Explorer window (or copy and paste the file).

Internet Explorer (Macintosh)
  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. In the address bar type ftp://members.lanzing.net, then press "Enter" on your keyboard.
  3. You will now be prompted for your username and password. Type in your LanZing.Net username and password, check the "save password" option and then click "OK."
  4. Click on the "public_html" link to open it.

Generic FTP Information (Windows)

Note:
The information below should apply to the most common FTP programs available for Windows.
  1. Connect to LanZing.Net as usual.
  2. Open the FTP Program.
  3. On the left is your computer and its directories. Maneuver through them to open the directory you want to copy the file from.
  4. Click Connect and fill in the following information:
     
    Host: members.lanzing.net
    Username: your LanZing.Net username
    Password: your LanZing.Net password
    System: Auto

    Then Click OK.
     

  5. When you are connected, double click on the public_html directory to open it.
  6. IMPORTANT Send all .html or .htm files as "ASCII" or "Text", and all other files must be sent as "Binary". Not doing this properly will result in "broken" graphic icons on your pages.
  7. Click on the files you want to transfer to the server from your computer or floppy drive.
  8. If you would like to change the name of the file, type in a new name on the bottom, right side of the screen. Note: Your main home page must be called index.html when it is placed on our server for others to be able to view your page properly.
  9. Click the copy button that points toward the right.
  10. You will see a progress bar that shows the percentage of the transfer that is complete.
  11. The file is now on the web server. The URL of your page is http://members.lanzing.net/~your_username/ This is the address you should give others if they want to view your page.

Fetch (Macintosh)
  1. Connect to LanZing.Net as usual.
  2. Launch Fetch.
  3. Input the following into the dialog box that appears:
     
    Host: members.lanzing.net
    User ID: your LanZing.Net username
    Password: your LanZing.Net password
    Directory: /public_html/

     

  4. Click the "Put File" button. You will be presented with a dialog box asking you to choose the file you want to send. Navigate through your folders, select the file and click "Open". If you are sending a binary file, Fetch will ask you which which format to send the file in. VERY IMPORTANT: choose "Raw Data" from the pop-up menu.
  5. To send a batch of files at once, choose "Put folders and files..." from the "Remote" menu. Select each file you wish to send by clicking on the file name followed by the "Add" button. when all of the files are selected, click "Done". Fetch will ask you which format you wish to send files in. For text files, choose "Text", for other files, choose "Raw Data". Click OK, all files will transfer to the server.
  6. The file is now on the web server. Use your web browser to test the website. The URL of your page is http://members.lanzing.net/~your_username/ This is the address you should give others if they want to view your page.

    How do I access my personal webspace?

    To use your personal webspace, first you must activate the service. You can activate the service on your account at any time, just click here. Each dial-up customer gets one (1) personal webspace account. Here are the settings you need to use with the personal webspace service:
     

  • FTP Server: ftp.lanzing.net
  • FTP Main File: index.html (all lowercase)
  • FTP Directory: /
  • URL: http://members.lanzing.net/user@lanzing.net/

    How do I upload to my webspace?

    You will need to use an FTP program. You can find some FTP programs at our FTP Client members page just click here, and then click on software on the left.

    How much webspace do I get?

    All personal webspace accounts get up to 100 MB of space. Additional space is not available for purchase.

    Do you support ASP, PHP, CGI, Frontpage, etc?

    The personal webspace account does not support ASP, PHP, CGI, or Frontpage. It supports HTML & Graphic files only. You will have to use an FTP program to upload your website.

    What can I use my website for?

    Personal webspace is meant to be used to maintain hobby websites, or websites about yourself. It can not be used for business reasons. It can not be used to maintain hate sites, guns, violence, adult material, warez, crack sites or anything that is illegal. We reserve the right to remove a website immediately and without notice if we feel it violates these rules, or our terms of service.

    How much bandwidth can I use?

    The website is meant to be used for personal and hobby sites only. Thus we have a cap of 500 MB of traffic per month to personal websites.

    Can you guys help me develop a website?

    We do not have assistance available for developing websites or assisting with website problems. Technical support is limited to dial-up and email issues only.

    However, you may build your own Instant Web Site online, utilizing our Web Site Tonight® software (Coming Soon!) Or click here for information regarding leads to website designers, website hosting and/or domain name registration.

    Can I use my own domain name?

    Personal websites does not support domain name hosting. It can only be accessed by using http://members.lanzing.net/user@lanzing.net/

  • However you may purchase a business Hosting plan through us, if you already have a domain name or even register one through us if you don't. Domain Registration.
